Our 2013 Elk hunt.

This is how it went for me and my hunting buddy in the Kootenays ,b.c. Got trucks and 4wheeler ,and 5th wheel trailer out to the bush set up on 12th of Sept. First few days were very hot in the 85 f .range, I said to my buddy should we hunt or go to beach , as we had a lake near by , lol. My buddy saw Elk 4x4 bull second day as you may know here in Canada you can only shoot 6 point on either side of rack is okay to be legal bull! I guy in next camp I had meet the past year , came back with a small 6x5 bull he shot . This was day 2, looked like young bull would be a good eater? Third day we walked away from camp buddy early morning. My buddy left few hundred yards ahead of me , so I cow called up a side hill I got a answer. He bugled to me twice ,I was using Rockie's Who's Yrr Daddy cow call,which I really like, it works! The area we hunted the Elk are smart and are call shy, you do not want call to much? I caught up to my buddy told him about the bull, as I wanted him to take his first bull Elk . In my hurry and excitement to set up, I took a nasty fall down a small hill.Bruised my arm up ,as I have a bad back and have mobility problem.If that Bull had showed himself ,I would have had trouble shooting it. lol. We set up to take this bull ,But I made a few mistakes ,in our plan.Number one was to stay together and call and wait. Elk hunting is learning experience every day for sure! The bull hung up in the heavy brush and did not show up. Lesson leaned we went back to camp for breakfast. This truck drives up to talk with us as were camped along the main road . He was not not hunting but looking for a relative who he wanted to help with Elk they got .He said, He just saw a bull Elk on road ,guess what just were we had been ,lol.He said he was trying to get it on film , I said was it a legal bull ,oh yes he said. As he did hunt at one time. We went back to look later that bull's tracks came right to were we were set up in the morning.We should have waited longer ,ah that is the fun of Elk hunting! In the next five days of our hunt we saw 3 more bulls 2 four by four point bulls and a really big 5x5 bull with cows .The Elk seemed to be on the north side of the mountains because it was very hot out, and where near water holes.Another 6 point bull a good one was shot in the same area.We had a a lot of fun any way chasing these Elk and enjoying the great outdoors!
