I am new to elk hunting and could really use a partner who knows what they are doing. I this is my 4th year hunting elk. I am in for bow season this year after not getting anywhere close with a rifle, the last 3 years. I had some cows, a spike and a 5 point on my game cams, but they have disappeared with no recent sign in the area and I am left feeling disheartened and the season just started today. I was hoping there would be someone on here who would either be willing to take me out and show me the ropes or at least be willing to provide some pro tips. 3 years of not getting close and a 4th that is taking a similar shape is taking its toll on my morale. I am 31 and a forester so I am in great hiking and packing shape and not afraid to get into the backwoods. Even if you just need someone to pack out your success, I'm willing to trade legs for education. Feel free to email me at ThOrMcHaMmEr@gMaIl.CoM (reading the advice on here said to mess up the email like that so it doesn't get scraped. Its all lower case.)

Hello,
My name is Josh Myers and I moved to this great state from Iowa almost 4 years ago! I immediately fell in love with it! I have always enjoyed the outdoors. My step-dad (my father) came into my life at the ripe age of 5. He taught me how to tie my shoes and fish! Two things in this world that helped me along my journey!
I've always wanted to learn how to hunt and to go hunting; however, I was a problem child and my mother forbid me to learn how to shoot anything! Gladly, I grew out of that life style before I turned 18, but then life caught up to me. I was working and wasn't able to take the mandatory Iowa hunter safety course they offered like twice a year... The year before I moved out here I took the online course they finally allowed and passed it.
I do not have any kids yet and recently married to a wonderful woman who is supportive in my desire to follow my dreams. She is a captain in the Oregon National Guard and has been deployed to Iraq.
I'm 30 years old, I do not smoke, Drink, or do drugs. I try to be respectful and not swear too much (sometimes the Irish in me lets it slip) I am quiet and polite. I do have a weak stomach and gallbladder/acid reflex issues which makes early mornings hard on me. I currently work as a temp for the City of Salem.
So that was a little bit about me now for why I am here...
I will be straight forward with ya'll I'm looking for a mentor. There is only so much one can learn from books and online. My wife will be gone from the middle of September until October for Captains career course on the east coast, and she will miss my birthday on the 16th so I will most likely be out elk, deer, bear, goose hunting depending on what tag isn't filled yet.
I would love for her to come home and see a full freezer! I shoot a Jennings Buckmaster 2000 "s" set at 60 lbs and 26 1/2 inch draw length I need to practice somewhere that I can shoot from 30-60 yrds though..
I was contemplating on hunting Stott Mtn since there ODFW reports state there was less than 300 archery hunters in that unit last year. With this being my first year I would love to hunt as close to home as possible. I still need to learn how to call better, skin, field dress, and process the meat. I do not make much money as a temp, and I need to still get some camo and a deep freeze!
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I enjoy this site with all the information on it! Everyone be safe out there this year!
Josh Myers

I pulled a cow tag for the NW Indigo December hunt and I am looking for any help on locating them. Anybody from the area that has spotted them? Any info helps!
Couldn't hunt regular season due to family medical issues and this elk-a-holic is itchin to get out!!
I have hunted Indigo before and I know they are in there but it is some thick stuff and it wouldn't be the first time getting skunked there.

2 bulls & 3 cows
I've hunted hearly all my life (born in April - went on my first Antelope hunt in Idaho that fall) But...there are times when I don't need all that meat, so I hunt strictly with my camera-& that's what I'm doing this year. I was asked to post some photos to go along with my elk hunting adventures here in Yamhill County. The herds have gotten SO used to me & my truck being out there watching them that it's kinda like "ho-hum!! Her again!!" And back to life as normal...eating, scratching, looking, chasing...whatever they want to do. Little do they realize that I am also the one who "downed" one of their cows again last year. I plan on keeping it like that...I LOVE shooting with my NIKON nearly as much as I do with my rifle.
Hope you enjoy these pictures.

I went out this morning to go elk hunting - sans rifle - just my handy dandy Nikon.
LOVE watching them interact with one another. To see them alert when a big hawk comes swooping out of the trees towards them. To watch the cows gently licking their "this years" calves.
I'm SO thankful to be able to live in a place where I can enjoy them nearly all winter long.
